‘Tokyo Magnitude 8.0’ acquired by Maiden Japan

Earlier this week, on Jan. 3, 2012, anime publisher Maiden Japan announced that they have acquired the anime series “Tokyo Magnitude 8.0” for release in North America in April of this year.

“Tokyo Magnitude 8.0” is an original 11 episode anime series written by Natsuko Takahashi that is co-produced by animation studios Bones (Soul Eater) and Kinema Citrus with direction by Masaki Tachibana (.hack//Quantum). The anime features character designs by Atsuko Nozaki (Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky) and music from Ko Otani (Hakuoki).

Based on extensive research into the potential effects of a massive earthquake, “Tokyo Magnitude 8.0” follows sister and brother, Mirai and Yuki, as well as motorcycle currier Mari as they join together in the hopes of returning to their families in Setagaya, where Mirai and Yuki’s parents live, and Sangenjaya, where Mari’s daughter and mother are, after a devastating earthquake strikes Tokyo. The three will have to make their way through the mangled streets of Tokyo that are now riddled with dangers and face many hardships and heartbreak on their way home, not knowing the fates of their loved ones.

In conjunction with distributor Section23 Films, Maiden Japan will release “Tokyo Magnitude 8.0” on bilingual DVD, Blu-ray and in digital formats on Apr. 2, 2013.
