Just two years after the destruction of the Fukushima Nuclear Power plant due to an offshore earthquake and resulting tsunami, Japan is once again rising from the ashes and reinventing itself as a fashion mecca.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo opened today, with their official kickoff ceremonies held last night.
The event, which runs through Saturday, March 26, will feature some of Japan’s best designers, artisans, and models, as well as designers from around the world.
The Runway Schedule, which includes designers such as DressedUndressed, COTOO, and Yasutoshi Ezumi, lists almost back-to-back shows throughout the entire week.

Here in the Valley of the Sun, Phoenix Fashion Week’s facebook page is pushing the Shine Project’s 2013 Benefit, a “Girls Night Out” being held on Saturday, April 20th, from 6 pm-9 pm. The details from the site:
This event is a beauty bar hop located at Phoenix Fashion Weeks newest location, The Phoenix Fashion Week Hub. Come with your friends and join other women in the valley to get your nails, hair, eyebrows and make up done, with all proceeds going to our charity, The Shine Project! In addition to being pampered we will also have a raffel [sic], silent auction, live entertainment, light food, and drinks.
The Shine Project helps at-risk teens to build leadership skills, with proceeds going directly to help pay tuitions for inner-city college students. Tickets are$60, and according to the Phoenix Fashion Week facebook page, the ladies will receive a $140 value. Tickets are available on their website:
