According to the Canadian Press on Wednesday, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jonathan Toews has signed a multi-year contract to remain with the Chicago Blackhawks. The terms of the deal are eight years and worth $84 million.

Toews, who won a gold medal with Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and again at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, had 28 goals, 40 assists for 68 points with the Blackhawks last season. Toews, who was also a +26, was a finalist for the Frank J. Selke Award as the best defensive forward in the National Hockey League, but lost out to fellow Canadian Olympic gold medalist Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins.

The Blackhawks also signed Patrick Kane long term to the same contract as Toews. There is no question that Kane and Toews have been the major reason the Blackhawks have had so much success over the last decade.

Toews has now spent seven full seasons with the Blackhawks and has 195 goals, 245 assists for 440 points and is a +141 in 484 regular season games. In the postseason, Toews has 29 goals and 52 assists for 81 points in 94 regular season games.

Known also for his leadership, Toews has been the Blackhawks' captain since the 2008-09 regular season. He also won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2010, Selke Trophy in 2013, along with his two Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks in 2010 and 2013.

In his two Olympic Winter Games where Toews won the gold medal for Canada each time, he has two goals and nine assists for 11 points in 13 games. In each gold medal game, Toews scored Canada's opening goal. He also scored the game winning goal for Canada in their 3-0 win over Sweden in the gold medal game of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
