Orange County Parks and Recreation is hosting their annual Fort Christmas Bluegrass Festival on Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16, 2014. This free two-day event at Fort Christmas Historical Park includes concerts by Moonlite Express, Seminole Ridge, Pine Creek, and Gary Mackey Band. Greg Taillon of The Porchdogs will oversee the sound.

The picturesque 143-acre park includes a fort replica of one that was built in 1837 during the Seminole Indian War. More than 200 forts of various sizes and construction were built during the Second Seminole Indian War that spanned the years between 1835 to 1842. Exhibits and a video presentation about the Seminole Indian Wars can be found inside the fort.

In addition to the fort, there are historical homes restored to demonstrate the 'Cracker' architecture of East Orange County in the park. They are decorated and furnished with items that show how pioneers lived in the years spanning the 1870's through the 1930's. There is a schoolhouse and lunchroom, a sugar cane mill and antique farm equipment on display, as well.

Three picnic pavilions accommodate large groups at the park. Recreational amenities include a children's playground, basketball court, tennis court and small baseball field.

The Fort Christmas Bluegrass Festival includes a craft show and sale, an antique tractor display and barbecued food and refreshments for purchase. Entry to the park and event is free. Event hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days. Alcohol and pets are prohibited. For more information about the park visit the Fort Christmas Historical Park website.
