The story of a toddler rescued from train tracks is gaining worldwide attention this week after images showing the exact moment that a woman risks her life to save her baby were released. According to a report from The Daily Star on Aug. 11, the child had fallen onto the railroad tracks after a strong gust of wind pushed the toddler's stroller. Quick action by the mother was instrumental in saving the life of the baby because it was just seconds before the next train was due.
CCTV footage revealed that the stroller was left unattended momentarily by a man at a London Underground train station while he helped other family members. Then suddenly, the stroller falls onto the tracks as if pushed by unseen forces, almost like a scene from Final Destination.
The drama unfolded on July 23 and amidst the moment of shock, the baby's mother did not hesitate for a moment and jumped to rescue her toddler just seconds before another train arrived.
Chief Inspector Mark Lawrie said: "This was a frightening incident, not just for the scale of the danger the child was exposed to, but also because the woman then put her own life on the line by going onto the track
Meanwhile, the British Transport Police has asked witnesses to identify the people involved in the incident to determine if both the child and the woman are in good health.
He added: "We urgently need to identify the people involved to ensure the child wasn't injured as a result of the fall onto the tracks. I have taken the step of releasing CCTV of the people involved to highlight the very real concern we have for all involved," Lawrie said. Although it appears as if the near-fatal accident was simply an unfortunate mistake, police say the couple could face charges.
