The 26-year-old boyfriend of a Washington Township woman was arraigned Thursday on a charge of 1st Degree Child Abuse after a savage attack on his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son left the toddler comatose, with an uncertain future. Family members said doctors should know by tomorrow the extent of the boy’s brain injury.
Mother Nicole “Nikki” Sutton had entrusted her boyfriend Ronald Anthony Dimambro to watch her son Damian Rylan Sutton two nights a week while she was away at work.
It was a gamble. Dimambro had a rap sheet that included domestic violence. Nicole Sutton thinks the motive for Tuesday’s attack was jealousy.
That day Dimambro first told the child’s relatives he had fallen out of a crib. Next, during a 911 call, he told police that the kid was having a severe asthma attack. Both claims were lies.
The boy was first transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital, and later airlifted to Children’s Hospital.
Doctors found evidence of ‘shaken baby syndrome,’ and serious traumatic injuries to the abdomen and head.
At his arraignment, Dimambro pleaded not guilty.
