The 2014 Sochi Olympics is only one day away before the competition starts and the big decisions of Team USA are rolling out. The U.S. Olympic Opening Ceremony flag bearer was chosen on Wednesday and fans are surprised. The athlete who will carry the flag in the Olympics Opening Ceremony is Todd Lodwick. According to NBC Sports, he will lead the United States in the Parade of Nations.

Who is Todd Lodwick? He is an American Nordic combined skier and has seen more than his share of competitions. Lodwick will become the first U.S. Winter Olympian to compete in six Olympic Games. This honor, along with his focus to the sport, had the US Olympic Committee excited to offer him the position.

While there were plenty of other qualified candidates for the job, most of the Olympic viewers are excited about the decision. Focusing on Lodwick’s dedication to his sport and his longevity, the backstory for this athlete is extremely impressive. While there is no loser when it comes to the decision of the flag bearer, this choice might be the best yet.

Next time Team USA fans see Todd Lodwick he will be holding the American flag in Sochi on Friday night. Leading the parade of athletes, Lodwick will be out in front.
