Todd A. Deveau, Ed.D, has been named the new head of school by the board of directors of The Rainard School for Gifted Students in Houston, Texas. He hold a masters degree from Rice University and doctorate from the University of Houston in gifted and talented education.
Dr. Deveau was formerly principal at The Christ School in Orlando, Florida since 2009. Previously he was a teacher and then administrator at River Oaks Baptist School in Houston for 13 years.
The Rainard School for Gifted Students recently celebrated it’s 25th Anniversary. It is the oldest non-profit gifted and talented school in Texas that is and has been totally devoted to gifted education.
Dr. Deveau said “It was during my 15 years at River Oak Baptist School that I developed a passion for the unique and extraordinary needs of gifted learners. That population of high ability learners and my doctoral studies in gifted and talented education at University of Houston under Dr. Rick Olenchak, the renowned author and lecturer in gifted education, allowed me to engage in constant scholarly inquiry with immediate opportunities for application.
I accepted the role as principal of The Christ School knowing that it was in the midst of a significant enrollment decline. A price value independent school, The Christ School had lost one quarter of its enrollment over the previous three years and a lack of leadership created a middle school on the brink of disaster. Through the creative restructuring of several positions, the replacement of ineffective faculty members with passionate and proven educators, and a daily focus on communication and relationship building among the entire community, The Christ School is now heading toward growth.
The positive faculty and student culture prevalent in 2010-2011 represents a complete shift from the year prior. The school is celebrating 100% reenrollment in the middle school for 2011-2012, up from 80% the year before. I am proud to have been able to bring my leadership to Orlando, and contribute to the reemergence of The Christ School as the premiere K-8 educational experience in central Florida.
An optimal educational environment requires a partnership and open communication among the administration, faculty, parents, and the students themselves for successful preparation and an individualized appropriate for the new millennium and not limited by the traditionally accepted barriers in education of time and space. My vision and leadership can complement that which is already in place at The Rainard School through integrity, dedication, and an enduring commitment to excellence.”
Dr. Deveau went on to say, “I cherish the opportunity to lead and grow The Rainard School and provide a model of gifted education for the world. Enhancing the development of the future leaders of the world is my life, and I can confidently offer that passion to The Rainard School.
The gifts provided me are consistent with the philosophy and goals of an independent school promoting intellectual, social and emotional excellence for gifted learners. I am committed to The Rainard School’s mission.”
