Todays in-action of the Senate Judiciary Committee buys us more time

The Senate Judiciary Committee convened for a rather short time today (2/28/13), discussed rather informally the nominations of District Court Judges, the AWB bill (S. 150) and the other gun bills before the Committee.

According to the Committee Calendar, consideration/debate will be given to various nominations and :

S. 150, Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 (Feinstein)

S.54, Stop Illegal Trafficking in Firearms Act of 2013 (Leahy)

S.374, Protecting Responsible Gun Sellers Act of 2013 (Schumer)

S.146, School Safety Enhancements Act of 2013 (Boxer)

What the actions, more like in-actions, of the Committee today has given us more time to contact our Senators if we haven’t already done so. There is no reason not to contact them yet again. If your Senator is on this committee, you now have time to contact them expressing your wishes these bills die in Committee. You can contact them via the Interactive Map link below. The Senators listed as Class 2 are up for re-election in 2014. The Class 2 Senators are more vulnerable to pressure due to the fact they are up for re-election next cycle.

It is not clear as to HOW the vote will be conducted. Will it be a ‘Roll Call’ vote, or a simple group ‘yeas or nays’? It is hoped it will be a roll call so tracking of individual Senators vote in committee can be tracked, ultimately holding them accountable for their vote in Committee, or on the floor.
