Today’s Colorado ski and snow report: windy powder day

There are some fantastic snow totals this morning, particularly at Vail, Steamboat, Copper and Breckenridge.

Be careful heading up to the mountains this morning, however, since there’s a lot of blowing snow about. Due to that blowing snow, Loveland Pass is closed, as is the main approach to Monarch and Crested Butte from Denver, Highway 285 at Kenosha Pass.

As you can see in the report below accumulations varied fairly significantly over the past 24 hours, from 0 to 10 and everything in between. Very interesting…

Even more snow is expected all the way through Monday morning, so by the time all is done we expect to see grand totals from this six-day mountain snow storm of between a foot to three feet and perhaps even more.

By the way, word just came in from the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) that "challenging weather conditions and new snow have prompted officials to move the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix halfpipe snowboarding finals to 1 p.m. MST on Saturday, Jan. 11, as well as to move the Paul Mitchell slopestyle finals to Sunday, Jan. 12 at 9:45 a.m. MST. This decision was reached in order to achieve the greatest opportunity for success on Saturday, by keeping all manpower and resources at the same venue for halfpipe skiing and then halfpipe snowboarding. Then on Sunday, all resources will be put into slopestyle snowboarding to produce the best possible event."

Again, be careful going up today: be patient, don’t tailgate and stay focused. In the meantime, here are the 24-hour, two-day, three-day and four-day totals, in that order, from across Colorado
