Today’s Colorado ski and snow report: weekend update

It never ceases to amaze us how two ski areas that are relatively close together can have such wildly different snowfall accumulations. We get it that it’s a complicated dance of topography, temperature, wind, moisture and flow, but it’s still fascinating and almost indiscernible.

Anyway, we were struck by the fluctuating totals below that range from 0 inches overnight to a high of 13 inches of new snow at Monarch, which is the two-day snow champion.

With snow likely through Sunday night, and especially Saturday night into Sunday, who will be the next snow accumulation champion? We’re not sure, but check back here for the answers.

In the meantime, there are two road closures to look out for this morning: Berthoud Pass is closed for avalanche control and Highway 65 to Powderhorn due to “adverse conditions”.

Snow is still being reported at Monarch Pass and Wolf Creek Pass as we await another more widespread round of light snow that will linger on and off through Saturday to be replaced by a much more robust storm Saturday night. Sunday and Monday should be amazing just about everywhere.

There it is and here are the 24-hour and 48-hour totals in that order…
