Today’s Colorado ski and snow report: the latest terrain report

As noted yesterday, the snow is expected to take a hiatus for a bit, though there a chance for something somewhere this weekend. Lots of “breezy,” “blustery,” and “windy” in this week’s forecast, but it will warm up, especially relative to the super-cold temps of this past weekend.

We’re making progress on the terrain, though not as much as we’d hoped to see after the latest snow. The areas at 100 percent open or closest to 100 percent open include: Wolf Creek, Monarch, Powderhorn, Aspen Mountain, Arapahoe Basin, and Sunlight.

Loveland will open Chair 4 for its first south-facing exposure of the season, which will open things up there quite a bit for the weekend. With two weeks or so before Christmas it will be interesting to see how much progress is made between now and then.

6th Alley Opens at A-Basin Tomorrow
At Arapahoe Basin, the ski area will open its newly renovated 6th Alley Bar & Grill at 11 a.m. Regular hours will be Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Located on the main level of the A-Frame base lodge, the 6th Alley Bar & Grill now has triple the capacity by expanding the bar area, creating balcony seating on the second floor and adding weather protection on its outside venue, The Perch.

Table service has been added, there will be 20 rotating draft beers with 15 taps dedicated to Colorado microbrews, a new drink menu featuring variations on the Moscow Mule and the traditional A-Basin Bacon Bloody Mary.

Food and Beverage Director Chef Christopher Rybak created new lunch, après and drink menus, including unconventional ski area fare like Jackalope Bratwurst (served with cherries, habanero peppers and caramelized onion relish) alongside standard après favorites like wings, nachos and artichoke dip. A preview of the 6th Alley Bar & Grill food menu can be found when you click here.

The new decorating scheme pays tribute to the heritage of A-Basin while adding a modern twist. The ski area gave a nod to its history by intertwining facts about the mountain and historical photos of its founders and early years as a ski area. These elements were incorporated into the overall design, including a large mural on the south wall of the 6th Alley and archival photos on the dining area’s table tops.

Enjoy if you’re headed to A-Basin tomorrow, and in the meantime, here’s the latest 24-hour snow report plus the latest terrain updates…
