As noted yesterday, it’s looking good for steady snow accumulation in Colorado’s mountains all the way through the weekend. Snow is “likely” at least through Saturday, with a good chance of it falling into Monday.
As the snow fell yesterday, so too did the driving abilities of certain people. There were numerous closures along I-70 all day long. Fortunately, only one lingering closure remains: Loveland Pass. However, since we’re in a lull, snow-wise, we expect it to open again this morning following the 16-hour or so closure.
And don’t forget about the work at the Twin Tunnels between Floyd Hill and Idaho Springs. As the Colorado Department of Transportation works on widening I-70 in this area, there will be delays.
Most of the time the area is reduced to one lane, but it’s usually not that bad. Sometimes, however, they shut down traffic for 20 minutes while they blast at the tunnel, though they’re not expected to do so today. Be sure to see what they’re up to at www.cotrip.org/roadWork.htm.
Though it’s not snowing now, snow is expected later today and tonight, stretching well into the weekend from there. So if you go, be safe, be calm, be cool, be collected, be courteous, etc., etc., etc. It’ll be busy up there with Spring Break in full swing, and that can be a caustic combination: snow, texting meth heads, tourists, Californians, and other riffraffian types.
