Today’s Colorado ski and snow report: spring snow pack

There was a lot of chatter last week about Colorado’s snowpack. I kept hearing the number range of 8-10 feet, as in that’s how much Colorado’s mountains would need to get back to average for a decent snowmelt this summer, and to avoid water restrictions down here on the Front Range.

So we get a pretty nice storm (five-day totals listed below) that brings anywhere from a foot to more than two feet to most of Colorado’s mountains, but I hear that 8-10 foot number range again on the news yesterday. What gives?

Are we perpetually needing 8-10 feet of additional snow, regardless of what happens in the mountains? Or, perhaps they don’t update their numbers but once a month or so, and we have to wait till April when they’ll say we need 4-6 feet more snow to get back to normal. Who knows? Maybe you know and can let us know, which is why we bring it up.

Anyway, the week ahead looks somewhat unsettled with some chance of snow in the forecast for most of the week. However, there’s no organized system behind any of it, so we don’t expect but an inch here or an inch there, mainly north of and along I-70.

It will be quite cold today, but warmer as the week progresses. Thursday is supposed to be pretty nice, in fact, so that looks like a good sick day for those of you who will be sick.

Have a fantastic week and enjoy the 24-hour, two-day, three-day, four-day and five-day snow totals, listed in that order, from Colorado’s ski areas…
