Today’s Colorado ski and snow report: Snowpocalypse

Just when you thought it was safe to drive in the mountains this morning… Bam! I-70 closed at Silverplume around 6:30 due to a jackknifed semi with another wreck around Fall River Road.

As you likely know, yesterday was bad, even for an era in Colorado where bad has become the norm: I-70 closed for a few hours in the morning, there was a pileup on 285 and Berthoud Pass closed when an avalanche came down on the road.

It’s too bad that just about every powder day is marred by Deathrace 2014, but there it is. If you’re headed up, always check CDOT’s website (www.cotrip.org) to see what’s happened and how you might be able to get around it.

If you were or are able to get there, conditions will be excellent, and will be for some time to come. We’ll see a break in the snow till Tuesday, when the next system moves in. In the meantime, here are the 24-hour snow totals from across Colorado…
