Regardless of what happens with the storm moving into the state from the northwest today, Arapahoe Basin announced this morning that it plans to open terrain from the summit of the mountain at the Lenawee Mountain Lift.
Blue runs Lenawee Face and Dercum’s Gulch will hook up with Ramrod and High Noon at mid-mountain for a continuous ride from top to bottom. For the uninitiated, you’ll ride the Black Mountain Express to mid-mountain, take a left, follow the road down to the Lenawee lift and there you go.
At Loveland, Chair 6 was opened recently serving the blue run under the lift, Roulette. From Chair 1 you can access the linking green runs – Catwalk, Mambo, Home Run – or the blue runs Spillway to Lower Richards to the bottom.
Wolf Creek is once again the only ski area with everything from beginner to expert terrain open with four lifts – Treasure, Bonanza, Alberta and Nova – cranking up Saturday, at which time the ski area will be open for business seven days a week.
Even more terrain will be opening up on Friday as Copper Mountain and Keystone launch their seasons. Look for terrain updates on all of the open resorts, plus Copper and Keystone, as the week progresses. The next storm, plus the addition of a weaker system that’s supposed to move in on Friday, should help drive more terrain expansion.
Speaking of said storms, the first one that’s supposed to hit Steamboat first later this afternoon promises to bring 6-12 inches of the good stuff to most of Colorado’s ski areas. However, because it’s coming in from the northwest it’s likely to bring more snow to north and central mountains than the southern mountains. Of course we’ll find out what it actually brings in tomorrow’s and Thursday’s snow reports, the roundup of which will be published here first, as always (or most of the time).
We’re supposed to get clearing in the mountains on Thursday and Friday with a possibility of snow Friday evening into Saturday, more clearing on Sunday, then another possibility of snow on Monday. The snow scheduled for tonight and tomorrow is supposed to bring high winds as well, so watch yourself if you venture out in it.
For what it’s worth, here’s the snow report, which we all hope will be replaced with double-digit readings tomorrow and Thursday…
