Today’s Colorado ski and snow report: grand totals

It’s been snowing fairly steadily in the mountains for the past eight days, generally favoring the northern and central mountains. The snow is over, but the effects should last for some time.

The top five snow-getters over the past eight days are: Breckenridge with 50 inches, Vail with 39 inches, Copper Mountain with 39 inches, Steamboat with 36 inches, and Winter Park and Loveland with both at 32 1/2 inches. Note that we’re reporting Steamboat’s totals from mid-mountain; the summit of Steamboat picked up more like 42 inches.

It’s windy up there this morning and the forecast is for “blustery” through the end of the week, but the weekend into MLK Day on Monday should be quite nice indeed.

Loveland Pass is still closed this morning, but expect it to open sometime today. Red Mountain Pass (Highway 550 south of Ouray) will be closed through the weekend due to a rock slide. Also watch out for intermittent closures in Glenwood Canyon.
