We are pleased with every little bit of snow we can get and this latest storm was a mixed bag. Every Colorado ski area got at least something, though the storm once again heavily favored the southwest mountains.
However, the storm ushered in very cold temperatures with highs not expected to climb out of the single digits until mid-week. Bundle up and pay attention to what your toes, fingers and any other exposed areas are telling you.
We caught a segment on one of Denver’s TV news shows last night about how to stay warm in cold weather. We expected they’d state the obvious: stay indoors in front of a fire with a hot cup of coffee. They didn’t, though they stated the other obvious ways to stay warm: layer up and pick up some of those boot and glove warmers. Okay then.
We normally don’t make ski day recommendations because we like all Colorado ski areas equally and prefer that you develop your own biases. This morning is different because we’re skiing at an undisclosed location today.
As you can see from the snow totals below, your best bets are Wolf Creek and Purgatory. But if you’re nowhere near those areas, Beaver Creek and Winter Park would be the two best options.
If you live on the Front Range your only choice is to stay home and watch the Broncos game. Anything else would be sacrilegious, K?
According to the National Weather Service there’s a chance for lingering snow through Monday morning, followed by another stretch of blue skies at least through the end of the week.
The roads aren’t bad this morning, but there are still icy and snow-packed spots, so please take it easy if you violate the Broncos Rule this morning and end up on I-70.
