As we’ve noted many times here, Colorado’s highways and byways have become increasingly treacherous over the past few years. It seems that I-70 is closed by accidents and whatnot almost daily, as it once again was yesterday between Frisco and Copper Mountain.
All we can say is: be careful out there. We can also say that it’s a very good idea to check the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) website (www.cotrip.org) before you hit the road. This is especially important now as CDOT has a number of projects ongoing through the summer that will impact your drive, particularly the Twin Tunnels project between Floyd Hill and Idaho Springs where you’re likely to encounter 20-minute stops as they blast away at the tunnels. Yee haw!
In other news, a blast of snow yesterday – and a relatively large blast at a few ski areas, as you can see below – barreled through Colorado.
We might get an inch here, two inches there, and so forth, here and there over the course of the next seven days, but nothing significant is really possible until next week.
In the meantime, here are the 24-hour snow totals from Colorado’s ski areas…
