Today’s Colorado ski and snow report: April showers

April is arguably one of the best months to ski in Colorado, which begs the question of whether or not there’s such a thing as a bad month in Colorado. No. There isn’t. A bad month, that is.

Be that as it may, April is one of our favorites, for a few good reasons: you can still get amazing powder days, the Spring Break crowds are gone and back where they belong (no offense), and you also get warm, sunny, slushy days of bliss.

All of the above is why we enjoy May and June just as much as April. Plus, since we’re transitioning between snow and summer sports, traffic in the mountains slacks off considerably, which is particularly crucial now with the Twin Tunnels construction ongoing through at least December.

The good news at the Twin Tunnels is that the 20-minute stops at the construction site between Floyd Hill and Idaho Springs are over. The bad news is that there’s a detour around the tunnels that will make for slow going and traffic jams, especially as we get into the summer months and more people head for the mountains again.

In other news, there’s a chance for snow in the mountains all weekend and well into next week. As you can see below there was a fairly consistent overnight snowfall, and we should expect to see the same basic totals every morning for at least four or five days.

So, keep it tuned here for the latest, as well as summer activity previews and whatnot as we make the transition to summer…
