Saturday November 2, 2013: Today it's best to channel your impulses into some creative endeavor. And what better way to do that than to take a look back, re-view the story you tell yourself, and then begin editing and re-writing.
You don't have to keep re-telling and re-acting to the same old story. And walking into the beautiful future that awaits you, seems to require that you make peace with your past. So take a step back and from the perspective of time, look at your story with a more mature and objective eye. Keep in mind that your memories are malleable, can change from one telling to another and do not tell the whole story, and are not complete remembrances of the your past.
My guess is that mixed in with the all those painful emotional memories that keep tripping you up, you'll find some forgotten happiness and joy. So pry out those happy joyful memories, white then down, incorporate them into your story, and re-write your story in a more positive and complete way.
Keep in mind that it only takes re-calling and re-telling these happy memories for them to become stronger.
"There is one technique that I usually use when applying “selective memory” to my life. I imagine myself as an old man, looking back on my life and laughing about the current problems. This perspective forces me to step out of my current view of the situation. This is a great relaxation exercise because it sets your mind into a positive state.
Go to a quite room, lie on the floor or find a comfortable chair. Then close your eyes and picture an older you with wrinkled skin, thinning gray hair, and tons of wisdom, sitting in front of a TV set. You have to imagine a person who has had a successful career with enough money in the bank to never worry again. This is important because you need to set your mind to accept your present situation.
Now turn on that TV set and replay the difficult situation back over the TV, whether it’s losing a big sale for your company or the pain of being fired. Watch your reactions and soak up the details that you can remember. This older (successful) you smiles; you know that you don’t have to worry about the future because you are happy."
