On this day in 1939 future songstress Denise LaSalle is born in Leflore County, Mississippi.

On this day in 1955 Elvis Presley makes his first appearance on the national charts as "Baby, Let's Play House" enters the Cash Box country charts at number 15.

On this day in 1963 The Beach Boys record the song “In My Room.”

On this day in 1969 The Beatles' “The Ballad Of John And Yoko” goes gold. Also on this day The Beatles are in the studio working on “Here Comes The Sun” and “Something.”

On this day in 1970 Janis Joplin joins Pigpen McKernan for a duet on "Turn On Your Love Light" at a Grateful Dead concert in California.

On this day in1977 Shaun Cassidy's “Da Doo Ron Ron” hits number one in the US.

On this day in1981 Harry Chapin died in a car crash at the age of 38. .

On this day in2003 salsa artist Celia Cruz dies at the age of 77.

On this day in 2008 Jo Stafford of The Pied Piers dies at the age of 90. Also on this day Billy Joel bids goodbye to Flushing, New York's iconic Shea Stadium with the first of two star-studded concerts. (Sadly, this would be the highlight of the Mets' season.)

On this day in 2011 "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO hits number one in the US. (The song would spend a staggering 68 weeks on the chart--six at number one--which was longer than any other chart-topper.) .

On this day in 2012 keyboardist/composer Jon Lord dies at the age of 71.
