Despite Governor John Kasich's impassioned plea for Medicaid expansion in his State of the State address, Ohio House Speaker William G. Batchelder and Senate President Keith Faber are not ready to commit to expanding Medicaid eligibility to 275,000 more low-income Ohioans.
If you support expanding Medicaid, it's important to let your state legislators know. UHCAN Ohio and COHHIO have designated February 21 a Statewide Call-in Day to support Medicaid expansion.
UHCAN Ohio has set up this page with information on how to find and contact your state lawmakers to urge them to support Medicaid expansion in the state budget.
According to Ohio Consumers for Health Coverage, expanding Medicaid would:
- Boost Ohio's economy by bringing nearly $20 billion in federal funds to hospitals, small businesses, and the millions of people they employ.
- Protect our hospital safety net by reducing unpaid hospital and ER visits in Ohio by more than $2 billion by 2019.
