It is actually much easier today to buy a book than ever. You don’t have to jump on your car and go to the local book store, though you still can do that in some cities. Places like amazon.com/book and www.buybookontheweb.com make purchases simple.
But you will probably be aiding those book sellers and authors more if you make the purchase at your local independent books store, the store that is struggling against the mega book seller Amazon.com.
Purchase a book from your favorite author or try a new author – perhaps a local author who lives near you.
Bookstore sales in the country declined slightly in 2012, but still accounted for $15.21 billion dollars, according to Publishers Weekly. The foundation hopes that their efforts will bring those numbers up.
So what is the foundation’s definition of book? All of these count – e-books, audio books, used books, children’s books, cook books, etal. The key here is the word “buy” so taking a book out of the library doesn’t count. Neither a shoplifted book.
