For comic book movie fans in Fresno this was an announcement we've been waiting for.

As reported by such sources as SuperHeroHype.Com, Wrath of the Titans and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes star Toby Kebbell has been signed to play the evil Doctor Victor von Doom in Josh Trank's upcoming reboot of the Fantastic Four film series.

The announcement comes over a month after the main cast of the film was announced last February. Kebbell will be joining a cast already consisting of Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm, a.k.a. the Thing, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, a.k.a. the Human Torch, Kate Mara as Susan Storm, a.k.a. the Invisible Woman, and Miles Teller as Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mister Fantastic.

The character of Doctor Doom, played by Julian McMahon in the previous two films directed by Tim Story, is arguably the greatest Marvel Comics villain of them all, and is in fact the personal favorite of creator Stan Lee. The casting of Kebbell in the role suggests, as seems to be the case with the other actor's casting as well, that the new film will be attempting a younger variation of the iconic villain, more akin to his incarnation in the Ultimate Fantastic Four comics that this script is reportedly taking it's inspiration from. It should be noted however that the version of Doom seen in the Tim Story films also took some inspiration from the Ultimate comics by giving him such superpowers as turning his body into living metal and the power of control electricity. These changes were ridiculed by many fans who much proffered the classic version of eh character that was a super genius dictator that wore a high-tech battle suit to challenge the Fantastic Four. It still remains to be seen what approach the film will in fact take with the character, but Kebbell's casting certainly makes things intriguing.

The Fantastic Four reboot is currently set for release on June 19, 2015.
