Though summer in Santa Monica is almost all year round, winter doesn't completely elude the sunshine coast.
I’ve become spoiled by the sunny days and warm weather, so I am always hesitant to venture out when the dial drops below 55.
Instead of wasting away at home, I have discovered some fun ways to explore Santa Monica in winter.
A row of chic hotels along the boardwalk (just south of the pier) are currently all decked out for the holidays. From Shutters to Loews to Le Margot Marriott, you will be greeted with complimentary hot chocolate and cookies set out in their lobbies. Step inside any of their grand lobbies to warm up your toes and tummies.
My favorite hotel along the boardwalk, Casa del Mar, has amazing sunset vistas. Sit in their cozy lobby lounge surrounded by windowed walls for the best view. Order a Hot Toddy or warm cup of tea and sit back and enjoy the sounds of their soothing musical acts every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Want to get the blood warmed the old fashioned way? Make your way down to Santa Monica’s outdoor ice rink, ICE, and twirl into warmth, laughing all the way.
Jump on your bike and ride down to the pier, which has been decorated in lights and a towering Christmas tree. Make your way to the end of the pier and warm your toes by Mariasol’s oceanfront firepit. Need a little more heat, liven up your insides with one of their famous margaritas.
Don’t let the cool weather keep you huddled inside. Take a warm leap and explore Santa Monica in winter. It’s a toasty surprise.
