It's been almost 30 years since Kansas Citians got up in the middle of the night to watch the spectacle of the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. Friday morning, it's time for "Royal Wedding - the Sequel," when Prince William marries Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey in London.

If you don't happen to be on the guest list, you can still toast the happy couple in style with a delicious cocktail created by wedding and event expert Colin Cowie just for the occasion. Although with televised coverage beginning as early as 2 a.m. Kansas City time (BBC America will be simulcasting the BBC coverage), a strong pot of coffee may be a more popular option.

No matter. With the lightness of cucumbers and raspberries, the Regal CV will be a delicious warm-weather choice. Or why not stir up one to make Mom a queen for a day?

Regal CV

  • 2 oz. Chambord Flavored Vodka
  • 3/4 oz. simple syrup
  • 3 slices of cucumber (with skin)
  • 3 fresh raspberries
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice

Muddle the raspberries, cucumber, and simple syrup. Add to a shaker with lemon juice and Chambord Flavored Vodka. Add ice and shake vigorously. Double strain into a cocktail glass or a large coupe glass. Serve garnished with fresh raspberries, or with a slice of cucumber and a fresh raspberry.

In addition to the BBC coverage, NBC will have a team in London and will begin "Today" coverage at 4 a.m. "Good Morning America" will begin on ABC at 4 a.m., and CBS's "Early Show" will begin at 5 a.m. The wedding itself is set for 5 a.m. Kansas City time.
