The days are getting shorter and the weather is cooling down, but it’s not quite time to break out the scarves and pumpkin spice lattes yet. Toast the last days of the season with end-of-summer deals at wineries, cocktail lounges and more.
For the wino:
The regions surrounding New York City are scattered with picturesque wineries preparing for fall’s crush season. Millbrook Winery, located in a renovated dairy barn two hours north of Manhattan, is offering a vineyard tour with tastings for two people for $19, regularly $36.
To sip wine without worrying about driving, step aboard the Hamptons Luxury Liner. The luxury bus picks up in Manhattan and visits three wineries in the North Fork of Long Island. Tours are on sale for $79, regularly $175.
For the beer snob:
Embark on a beer-tasting sail through New York Harbor with Manhattan by Sail. Through Friday only, the 158-foot schooner is discounting late-summer sailings, which include tastings of six craft beers from local breweries. Tastings are paired with crackers, cheese and charcuterie to nibble on the nearly two-hour cruise.
For the cocktail aficionado:
Hudson Terrace in Hell’s Kitchen hosts a weekly “Iron Chef”-style cocktail competition. Mixologists race against the clock to create inventive cocktails. Judge your favorite with discounted admission for $39, regularly $80. Admission includes five tastings and two full cocktails.
More unique cocktail creations can be found at Slide in West Village. The burger lounge has an outdoor patio and is known for its spiked milkshakes, such as the Sweet Home Alabama with butter pecan ice cream, Jim Beam and candied pecans. With a dinner deal valid through October, choose any two of the cocktails along with two plates of sliders and an order of fries for half off.
For a more classic cocktail, visit St. Andrews in the Theater District. Zagat calls this upscale pub a “scotch-drinker’s heaven.” Go with a friend and pair two starters with four cocktails or beers for $35, a $76 value, with this Travelzoo Local Deal.
