The desk currently being used in the Oval Office is known as 'the Resolute desk,' and was a gift from Great Britain's Queen Victoria in 1880.
The desk was presented to President Rutherford B. Hayes and constructed from timbers taken from the famed British Arctic exploration ship, the HMS Resolute.
The desk has been used by Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and finally by Barack Obama.
Roosevelt actually altered the desk, having a door placed on the front to block visitors' view of his wheelchair. Of course, many Americans remember little 'John John' Kennedy peering out through that same door, while his father tended to the affairs of state.
Unfortunately, we are now confronted with endless images of President Obama placing his dirty feet on that same storied desk.
His careless actions are not only an insult to the American people, but to the British people as well, our oldest and closest allies.
In contrast, President Ronald Reagan had so much respect for the office, that regardless of the hour, he would never enter the Oval Office without a proper shirt and tie, much less would he dare rub his feet all over the furniture.
Actually, Obama treats this desk with much the same respect he gives to the American people, the Constitution as well as the rule of law.
His actions are more befitting those of a poorly-raised teenager, rather than a U.S. President.
It has become painfully obvious that this man's goal is to diminish not only the presidency, but the entire country as well.
