With its TNT Mystery Movie series launched just this week, TNT is already planning additional broadcasts. A November 28, 2011 press release reveals that the network will air an adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s 1997 novel Hornet’s Nest during spring 2012. Hornet's Nest is the first title in Cornwell's Andy Brazil series.
TNT’s Hornet’s Nest will star Robbie Amell as Andy Brazil, a young reporter who assists Charlotte, N.C. Police Chief Judy Hammer (played by Virginia Madsen) in identifying a serial killer who is targeting out-of-town businessmen. Sherry Stringfield will appear as Hammer’s deputy, Virginia West.
Dee Johnson is writing the Hornet’s Nest screenplay. Both Jim Head and Patricia Cornwell will serve as the film’s executive producers.
Cornwell’s Andy Brazil books are not the first of the author’s mystery series to be televised. In April 2010 Lifetime Television broadcast adaptations of two books in her Win Garano series. Actress Angelina Jolie is also scheduled to star in a feature film based on the lead character from Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta series.
Hornet’s Nest will one of four new films based on mystery novels scheduled for TNT Mystery Movie’s spring 2012 season. The network has not yet revealed the titles of the three additional works.
The 2011 season for the TNT Mystery Movie began on Nov. 29 with an adaption of Scott Turow’s Innocent. Sandra Brown’s Ricochet followed on Nov. 30. Viewers can round out the year with Lisa Gardner's Hide on Dec. 6, with Richard North Patterson’s Silent Witness on Dec. 7, with April Smith’s Good Morning, Killer on Dec. 13 and with Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark’s Deck the Halls on Dec. 20.
