The TNT cable network has changed the proposed title of its upcoming Nov. 29-Dec. 20, 2011 broadcast of six made-for-television movies, each adapted from a bestselling mystery novel. Originally titled Tuesday Night Mystery, the dramas will now be broadcast as the TNT Mystery Movie Night.
TNT has also announced, through a press release and a trailer, new information on viewing dates and casting decisions for these films, summarized below. All shows are scheduled for 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT).
- Premiering Tuesday, Nov. 29, Scott Turow’s Innocent stars Bill Pullman as Rusty Sabich, a judge charged with the murder of his wife, played by Marcia Gay Harden. Turow published Innocent in 2010 as a sequel to Presumed Innocent (1987). Both works are part of the author’s Kindle County series.
- TNT's version of Sandra Brown’s 2006 standalone novel Ricochet, shown on Wednesday, Nov. 30, has John Corbett as Det. Sgt. Duncan Hatcher, whose investigation of Judge Cato Laird (Gary Cole) is complicated by his interest in the judge’s wife, Elise (Julie Benz).
- On Tuesday, Dec. 6 TNT airs Hide, based on Lisa Gardner’s 2007 D.D. Warren series novel. Carla Gugino plays Warren, a Boston police detective involved in a search for a serial killer. Kevin Alejandro appears as Detective Bobby Dodge, her former love interest.
- TNT broadcasts Silent Witness, its adaptation of Richard North Patterson’s 1996 Tony Lord series novel, on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Dermot Mulroney stars as defense attorney Tony Lord, who returns to his hometown to defend his friend, Sam Robb (Michael Cudlitz), a teacher accused of killing one on his students.
- Good Morning, Killer, based on April Smith’s 2003 Ana Grey series novel, may be seen on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Catherine Bell appears as FBI Special Agent Ana Grey, who is searching for the man who kidnapped a Santa Monica teenager. Cole Hauser co-stars in the role of Detective Andrew Berringer. April Smith also wrote the screenplay for the TNT drama and is one of its executive-producers.
- The last of the TNT mystery movies, Deck the Halls, airs Tuesday, Dec. 20. Adapted from the 2000 Alvirah and Willy series novel by Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark, Deck the Halls stars Scottie Thompson as Detective Regan Reilly, Jane Alexander as mystery writer Nora Regan Reilly and Kathy Najimy as private investigator Alvirah Meegan. This Christmas mystery centers on the search for the person who kidnapped Regan’s father.
In an Aug. 4, 2011 Deadline Hollywood article, reporter Nellie Andreeva states that TNT may be considering each of these six movies as "potential backdoor pilots." Noting the presence of series options in the actors' contracts, she suggests that the network might eventually establish television series from some of the films.
