TNA Wrestling crowned a new TNA World Champion with Magnus winning the title over Jeff Hardy last night at TV tapings in Orlando’s Universal Studio. Magnus’s title win was aided by TNA President Dixie Carter, Eric Carter III and Carter’s corporate cronie Rockstar Spud who prevented Hardy from winning this match. Magnus who revealed himself to be the new top villain in TNA with the title win, celebrated in the ring with Dixie Carter and company. The match will air in the next few weeks on IMPACT on Spike TV.

This is Magnus’s first World title after previously winning the TNA Tag Team Championships twice and once holding the IWGP Tag Team titles.

AJ Styles who won the TNA World Championship left the company in story line with the title belt, and is regarded as an “unsanctioned” champ who is defending the title in other wrestling promotions around the world. Styles is expected to return to TNA television in the future and this could set up a ‘champion vs. champion’ showdown.

Magnus who first made his name as a British performer on the European version of ‘American Gladiators’, while toiling away on the independent wrestling scene in Europe.

In a Pro Wrestling Examiner interview earlier this year, Magnus spoke about his rise to the top. “ I think it’s the case of making everyone aware now that I am more than capable of and deserving holding the spotlight on my own. I can hold that responsibility. I can carry those matches and hold those TV segments. I have developed. I feel I have earned a bit of respect and stock with the fans and the long term audience. It’s just a case of doing the absolute best with what is given to me. That is all you can ever do as a talent.” said Magnus.
