When AJ Styles began negotiating his new contract with TNA Impact Wrestling, word was that the company wanted him to take a major pay cut to stay with the company. According to Rajah.com on Dec. 19, that cut was bad but not as horrible as originally suggested.
When Mickie James was talking about her TNA contract awhile back, she mentioned that it was well below the $100,000 mark. When word came that AJ Styles was offered a big pay cut, some thought that it was around that level, which is why he could maybe do better on the independent scene.
It turns out that AJ Styles was making $350,000 per year with TNA Impact Wrestling and the company asked him to take a pay cut down to $200,000 a year. Styles would have to make $4,000 a week on the independent scene just to match those numbers, so it appears that the disagreement was not really about the money, but about the respect.
Jim Cornette did a recent interview where he said that Styles was not someone who threw around his money and is actually well off financially. This means that he feels a large pay cut means that TNA Impact Wrestling does not think he is worth the money to their company, and word was that he was just willing to move on if he wasn't worth the investment.
However, TNA then offered a "per deal" contract that seemed better, but could have meant a lot less money if they cut back on shows in 2014. Now, the TNA Wrestling rumors indicate that they are finally offering AJ Styles what he feels is fair and he will return to action in a matter of time.
