Bully Ray was a long running TNA World Champion as the leader of Aces & Eights, but he is not part of the upcoming TNA World Championship tournament. According to PWS on Nov. 1, that is because the company is trying to differentiate itself from the old writers who created the Aces & Eights story.
For storyline purposes, Dixie Carter told Bully Ray on this week’s “TNA Impact Wrestling” that she did not put him in the title tournament, despite him being the last champion before AJ Styles, because he couldn’t beat Styles on two different occasions, so he caused the mess to begin with.
The reality is that TNA wants to distance itself from the storylines created by Eric Bischoff, who the company released and sent home to sit out the remainder of his contract. He was the person who created the Aces & Eights storyline, so they are eliminating that.
Instead of being involved in the tournament, Bully Ray will feud with Mr. Anderson, who he took out with a piledriver on the stage a few weeks back. While this is still part of the story that Bischoff created, by taking Bully Ray out of the title picture, they hope to show a change is underway.
This is disappointing in the end, because Bully Ray was spectacular as the heel champion and is one of the best bad guys in TNA Impact Wrestling right now.
