TNA Impact Wrestling has been playing promos for the last two episodes about a newcomer named Ethan. According to Wrestle Zone on Oct. 3, this week’s episode showed a video of him and it appears he is Derrick Bateman.
Bateman was a WWE developmental wrestler that the WWE released earlier this year. He wrestled down in Florida in the developmental territory but was told the company had no creative plans for him and cut him loose. Bateman was pretty open about the fact that they had no real reason to release him, but it came at a good time because he said he was in a “bad place mentally.”
Bateman also said that one of the reasons for his release was a knee injury he suffered in a match with Antonio Cesaro. He said that the WWE had a “Mr. USA” gimmick set up for him, but after he returned from his knee injury they had dropped it and had no other ideas.
He did leave on good terms, saying that it was for the best, unlike fellow developmental star Percy Watson who publicly lashed out at the WWE after his release.
While in Florida, Bateman developed nicely as a performer and character, so if he is Ethan in the TNA Impact Wrestling promos, the company might have signed a winner.
