With AJ Styles leaving TNA Wrestling with the world title and Dixie Carter setting a tournament to crown a new champion, the stage is set for a future unification match. According to PWS on Nov. 1, AJ Styles has booked his first two major matches to start this new storyline.
When he left ‘TNA Impact Wrestling’ with the world title, Styles said he was taking the belt back to the people. What this means is that he plans to defend the TNA World Championship around the world, but not as part of TNA Impact Wrestling.
The first title defense will come in the AAA promotion in Mexico when he puts the belt on the line against Judas Mesias. For long-time TNA Wrestling fans, Mesias used to wrestle for the company under the management of Father James Mitchell. He had a big feud with former Mitchell protégée Abyss.
Judas Mesias has been a four-time AAA World Heavyweight Champion.
Before that, Styles will head to Japan for a non-title match with Seiya Sanada. While this match, in The Great Muta’s Wrestle-1 event, was supposed to be a title defense, they chose not to do so because the Judas Mesias match takes place after that.
Meanwhile, as AJ Styles is touring the country with his TNA title, the company will start a new tournament to crown a champion next week on “TNA Impact Wrestling.”
