The news that Tito Ortiz injured himself was a critical blow to Bellator MMA because it forced them to cancel their first ever pay-per-view event. However, PWInsider reported on Oct. 29 that former TNA Wrestling champion Bully Ray has offered to step in to replace Ortiz in the match.
This seems like a joke, but Bully Ray said he is serious. Of course, this could be huge for TNA Impact Wrestling but there is little chance that Bully Ray could win a legit MMA fight with Rampage Jackson. While the two were feuding in TNA Wrestling, with Bully Ray a part of Aces & Eights and Rampage in the Main Event Mafia, there is a big difference between professional wrestling and MMA.
While former pro wrestlers have tried their hands at MMA, with Batista and Bobby Lashley two famous examples, only Brock Lesnar was successful in the move from pro wrestling to MMA. Even with those men, it took many months of intense training to prepare for the world in the octagon.
Rampage Jackson answered the challenge and said he was all for it and would knock out Bully Ray in the cage. However, despite Bully Ray asking, Rampage accepting, and both TNA and Ballator being Spike TV staples, there is little chance this will occur. While wrestling fans might love it, it would be a match that would turn true MMA fans against Bellator in a second.
It was bad enough that Bellator had to cancel their pay-per-view. They don’t want to do anymore to become a joke to MMA fight fans.
