When AJ Styles won the TNA world title at “Bound for Glory,” it looked like he was back for good in TNA. However, the angle had him walk out with the belt and President Dixie Carter stripped him of the belt. Now, Wrestle View reported on Oct. 29 that AJ Styles will continue to defend the belt outside of “TNA Impact Wrestling.”
This will almost mirror the old WWE storyline where CM Punk walked out and quit after winning the WWE championship from John Cena. A WWE title tournament was held and the new champion was Rey Mysterio who lost the title to John Cena on the same “Raw” episode that he won the title at.
While Cena wrestled as the WWE Champion, CM Punk returned with his belt, setting up a title unification match, which Punk won.
TNA Wrestling looks to be setting up the same thing, with a title tournament being held including Kurt Angle, Austin Aries, Chris Sabin, Jeff Hardy, Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode, James Storm and the winner of a Gauntlet match.
However, AJ Styles will continue to wrestle around the world and defend his title through the tournament. His first appearance in a title defense will be on Nov. 3 in Tonala, Mexico on the AAA promotion’s television tapings. Who he defends the belt against is still unknown but should be announced soon.
