A.J. Styles has started his title defenses since the storyline where he left “TNA Impact Wrestling” as the champion. According to Rajah on Nov. 4, Styles first title defense since leaving the company took place last night in Mexico.
The match took place in Jalisco, Mexico at a AAA promotion event. His opponent was former TNA Wrestling villain Judas Mesias and Styles put his TNA world championship belt on the line.
The match ended with Styles picking up the win, but there was a lot of convoluted booking involved, including numerous run-ins during the match. Former WCW star Konnan was one of the wrestlers who ran in to attack Judas Mesias in the match. He was joined by Hijo del Fantasma and Texano Jr., and they all started beating down Mesias until A.J. Styles came to his rescue.
This is the first match for Styles since the episode of “TNA Impact Wrestling” where he walked out. Styles is next scheduled to face Seiya Sanada in The Great Muta’s Wrestle-1 promotion. Since he beat Mesias, his TNA title should also be on the line in that match as well.
TNA Impact Wrestling is not sanctioning these matches and they start a tournament this week to crown a new world champion. This should all lead to A.J. Styles returning for a title unification match down the line.
