Tonight TNA Wrestling presents Bound For Glory VI, live from Daytona Beach, Florida. TNA promotes Bound For Glory as their marquee or flagship pay per view, akin to WWE’s WrestleMania. Because it is TNA’s main show of the year, here is a brief rundown of tonight’s card.
TNA World Heavyweight Championship
Kurt Angle v. Jeff Hardy v. Mr. Anderson
After the Whole F’N Show back in August where Rob Van Dam beat Abyss in a Stairway to Janice Ladder Match, Abyss snapped and completely destroyed Van Dam, bloodying him and taking him out of action and forcing him to relinquish his TNA World Championship. An eight-man tournament was set up to determine a new Champion. Mr. Anderson beat “The Pope” to earn his way to the finals, but Angle and Hardy went to two different no contest draws so it was determined all three would meet in a triple threat to determine a new Champion. Angle has also vowed to retire should he not be victorious here, so it seems likely he will walk out as Champion here. He will have ready-made one-on-one matches with Hardy and Van Dam waiting for him, plus the always ominous threat of people like Anderson, The Pope and any member of Fortune.
Monster’s Ball
Rob Van Dam v. Abyss
This of course stems from the attack Abyss put on Van Dam after the Whole F’N Show back in August, which caused Van Dam to lose the TNA World Title and set the World Title tournament in motion. Abyss has since gone on a rampage, screaming about “10.10.10” and a mysterious “They” or “Them” who are coming on that day. This is essentially Van Dam’s return match from that injury and naturally is coming for some serious revenge on Abyss. Apparently Abyss is set to be fired after this match, win, lose or draw, but perhaps “They” will have something to do about that and we will be seeing more of Abyss in the future. That being said, Van Dam needs to win this match to gain his revenge and get himself back on track to regain the World Title.
Lethal LockDown
EV2.0 (Tommy Dreamer, Raven, Rhino, Stevie Richards & Sabu) (along with Mick Foley) v. Fortune (AJ Styles, Matt Morgan, Robert Roode, James Storm & Kazarian) (along with Ric Flair)
After August’s Hard Justice pay per view was converted into the ECW reunion show, Hardcore Justice, Ric Flair’s newly formed Fortune stable took offense to the old ECW stars taking up valuable pay per view and television time when it was clearly past their time and prime. Flair’s Fortune, while the villains in this feud, represent the young, hungry future of TNA and the business, while the Mick Foley-led EV2.0 represent the pain and passion of a type of wrestling gone by. This will be contested under TNA’s signature Lethal LockDown cage rules, with interval entrances and an enclosed cage full of weapons once all ten men enter the match. The match and no holds barred aspects will definitely favor the brawl-heavy EV2.0 group, but logic should see Fortune emerge victorious in order to truly cement them as the future of the company. Foley beat Flair on Thursday night in a Last Man Standing on the live Before the Glory special of Impact to give EV2.0 their battle victory. This should be the match that ends the war.
Handicap Match
Samoa Joe & Jeff Jarrett v. Kevin Nash, Sting & ”The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero
For months now Nash and Sting have realigned and complained about the management of TNA Wrestling, primarily of Hulk Hogan, Jeff Jarrett and TNA President Dixie Carter, and the lack of respect from the younger stars on the roster. Jarrett has taken up the cause to battle the former Wolfpac and Main Event Mafia teammates. He has recruited Samoa Joe to aid him in his fight, who only agreed begrudgingly after being attacked by Nash and Sting. The Pope joined Sting and Nash’s side after being slighted out of the World Championship main event by Eric Bischoff. He has now joined their cause and has become the third man in their new wolf pack. Hogan was supposed to be on Jarrett & Joe’s side but his severe back injury is keeping him hospital bound and the match was changed to a handicap match. This match should have big ramifications on who “They” are that Abyss has screaming about for weeks now. Joe should come out of this looking like a star over all of his older and more established contemporaries, but this match is more about the storyline than the winner.
TNA World Tag Team Championship
The Motor City Machineguns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) (c) v. Generation Me (Max & Jeremy Buck)
These two teams have been battling all year, ever since Generation Me joined the company back in January. However their rivalry really intensified last month at No Surrender when Gen Me stepped in as replacements for London Brawling to challenge the Machineguns for the Tag Championships. After The Machineguns won the match, Gen Me snapped and turned on Sabin and Shelley. Now Generation Me are full fledged villains, which adds another dimension to the teams’ every growing feud. This could easily be match of the night and potential match of the year contender if all the stars align right. The two teams have undeniable chemistry and have shown they can produce magic in the past.
TNA Women’s Championship
Angelina Love (c) v. Madison Rayne v. Tara v. Velvet Sky
Ever since Angelina Love returned this past spring she had been feuding with her former Beautiful People teammates (Rayne and Velvet.) Then when Rayne brought in a mysterious motorcycle-riding woman to aid her in winning matches it caused friction between her and Velvet. The feud has intensified throughout the summer and into the fall. Former TNA Women’s Champion Tara was revealed to be Rayne’s mysterious bodyguard and Velvet ditched Rayne and rejoined with Love to reform the original incarnation of The Beautiful People, only this time on the side of good. Now all four women will meet with every woman for themselves in a battle for Love’s Women’s Championship. The new x-factor that has been introduced is that Mickie James will be the special guest referee. This was just announced on Thursday’s night’s “Before the Glory” live special episode of Impact when James made her return to the company.
TNA X-Division Championship
Jay Lethal v. Douglas Williams
The X-Division has gotten very little promotion during the build-up to Bound For Glory. Lethal beat Williams for the belt on the September 6 taping of Impact and then traded the Championship with The Amazing Red during a house show loop in the northeast recently. This is essentially Williams’ mandated rematch and to ensure that the X-Division Title is represented on the company’s biggest show. Lethal should be victorious here.
Ink, Inc. (Jesse Neal & Shannon Moore) v. Orlando Jordan & Eric Young
This match is the definition of “mid-card filler.” These two teams have been battling back and forth on TNA’s syndicated show Xplosion and just recently brought the feud to Impact. Jordan has been playing the age old androgynes character made famous by “Exotic” Adrian Street and more recently by Golust, while Young has reverted back to his goofy antics thanks to an errant kick in the head in a recent match. Expect shenanigans and goofy antics, as this will be the comedy portion of the evening. Ink, Inc. should come out with a victory as Jordan and Young can retain their standing even with a loss due to their characters.
Plus…
Who are They?
Abyss’ “They” will also be revealed and will more than likely be the catalyst for a change in presentation and storyline direction in TNA in the upcoming months. Early money says that it is some sort of combination of old WCW stars (like Hogan, Nash, Sting and Jarrett) that will create some sort of hostile takeover, but TNA may have an ace up their sleeves and surprise everyone
Team 3-D’s big announcement
Brother Ray and Brother Devon have been absent from TNA television since August as it was rumored their contract had expired with the company and they were renegotiating. Clearly if TNA is giving them time on their biggest show of the year this announcement will be that Team 3-D has re-signed with the company for the foreseeable future and this will be the start of another push for the decorated tag team.
