For many, TLC’s Toddlers & Tiaras has been like a train wreck – they just can't help but watch. However, according to a Radar Online report dated Thursday, October 3, the overbearing moms and their thick makeup- wearing little girls will no longer have a TLC slot.
Yes, that’s right folks. The tantrum and tear-filled T & T has reportedly run its course….at least multiple productions sources say so.
“After six series, the show has officially been taken out of production,” an insider dished.
“Was it pressure from distractors? No one is saying, at least, not yet. They aren’t using the word ‘cancelled,’ but I can tell you that the show is over,” they continued.
Ever since the controversial show began, it was a hit among viewers…..even those who hated it, and couldn't help but watch and complain about it. Toddlers & Tiara is where Honey Boo Boo’s Alana Thompson first entered the scene. The highly competitive show also made Eden Wood a star.
Though the show aided in the careers of several children, it has faced serious criticism since it began airing. Critics have never been shy about voicing their disapproval for the parents who stop at nothing to win titles.
Last year, Toddlers & Tiaras star Maddy Jackson became the subject of controversy, and made headlines for a dispute between her parents. Her mother Lindsay Jackson was accused by her estranged husband Bill Verst, of ‘sexualizing their daughter.’ He felt that she was exploiting their daughter in pageants. When Maddy was dressed as Dolly Parton with fake boobs and a fake butt, it seems that things went too far. Lindsay faced a gag order and a judge ruled that she could no longer enter their daughter in pageants until their court hearing on August 31.
“What kind of judge tells a parent what kind of extracurricular activity they can put their child in? Pageants aren’t illegal and they’re not harming Maddy,” a source said at the time.
The reoccurring issue with the beauty pageant show is that many do believe it is exploiting children, despite the defensive stance that pageant parents take. Perhaps TLC has grown tired of the backlash?
The last episode of “History of American Pageant” will air on TLC on October 16.
When TLC was asked for comment they told Radar, “Nothing has been decided at this time, we are just not currently casting at the moment.”
