On May 12, TLC released a preview clip and announced the debut date for “A Duggar Leaves Home,” Amy’s new TV special that chronicles her journey to Nashville. As posted on Discovery Press Web on Monday, the one-hour special will begin with a 60-minute “19 Kids and Counting” episode that highlights some of Amy’s funniest and finest moments on the reality show. “A Duggar Leaves Home” will air directly afterward on TLC.
“19 Kids and Counting” has been a ratings success for TLC, so executives are looking for a similar success story from Amy Duggar’s new TV special. The Duggars are known for their conservative values, but cousin Amy is cut from a different kind of cloth. Because she’s a bit more fun loving, Amy can be a tad louder and a little wilder. With dreams of becoming a country singer, Amy packs her bags and leaves Arkansas to head for the bright lights of Nashville with dreams of branching out from her super-sized family and becoming a country music star in her own right.
During “A Duggar Leaves Home,” Amy travels to Music City with her mom Deanna and Grandma Duggar. From getting a feel for what the new city has to offer to singing on stage at an open mic night, Amy struggles to handle the not-so-glamorous side of life as an up-and-coming artist. Does she have what it takes to make it as a country music star? Tune in to find out. A special one-hour episode of “19 Kids and Counting” highlighting Amy’s best moments airs at 8 p.m. EST, to be followed by “A Duggar Leaves Home” at 9 p.m. EST on Tuesday, June 10 on TLC.
During the official preview of “A Duggar Leaves Home,” Amy talks about her famous family and her desire to make it in the music industry. According to Radar Online, she stated:
I love them so much and respect them more than words, but I am a bit of a wildcard. Just because my last name is Duggar doesn’t mean a thing. I’m just a regular girl. I’m going to try my hardest. There are no guarantees. But come on... someone’s got to make it!
Last month, Amy Duggar spoke to Examiner.com for an exclusive interview about her new TV special. According to Amy, TLC executives contacted her about six months ago and asked if she was interested in starring in her own TV show. Amy agreed and taping began shortly thereafter. In fact, Amy spent a lot of time living out of a suitcase and traveling between Nashville and Arkansas.
“It will show a whole different side of the Duggar family,” Amy explained about her new TV special. When asked what she liked most about her new TV opportunity, Amy exclaimed, “I get to be real!” She added that there is no script, so everything is very realistic. “It’s just me being me!”
Amy hopes to build buzz around her special, “A Duggar Leaves Home,” in the weeks leading up to its premiere. For the national debut of her show, she plans on renting out a place in Arkansas that can accommodate her super-sized Duggar family. If ratings are strong, TLC could extend the special into a weekly TV show.
The next two months will be the calm before the storm for Amy. Once her special airs, Amy Duggar's world will be turned upside down, but in a good way. She refers to “A Duggar Leaves Home” as a comedy hour because “there’s a lot of heart.” She also promises that it will include good, wholesome fun for the entire family.
