Titleist honors Victor Dubuisson’s desert heroics with cactus-stamped wedge

Victor Dubuisson was runner-up to Jason Day in last month's Accenture Match Play Championship, but his display of short-game wizardry from Dove Mountain's prickly Saguaro in overtime won the formerly anonymous Frenchman new fans worldwide and, on Wednesday, a customized, cactus-stamped wedge from Massachusetts-based Titleist.

Dubuisson’s first up-and-down from the cacti on the 19th hole turned the heads of the likes of Arnold Palmer and Gary Player. When he escaped the clutches of the desert with another deft touch for another par on the 20th to keep the match -- and the magic -- going, Twitter exploded with blasts like that from Tom Watson.

“Two of the greatest up-and/downs I have ever seen Victor!!!” the captain of the 2014 U.S. Ryder Cup tweeted about a guy he will likely have to strategize against in the September matches at Gleneagles.

Dubuisson, who has accepted special temporary membership in the PGA Tour for the remainder of the 2013-2014 season, received his commemorative wedge in time for this week’s Cadillac Championship at Doral.

No word on whether the world’s 23rd-ranked golfer has his 58-degree cactus iron in the bag for his turn on Donald Trump’s revamped Blue Monster. With unlimited sponsor exemptions for the rest of the season, though, Dubuisson will have plenty of opportunity to brandish his new stick.
