Titans finish regular season with victory over UIC, 79-67

The University of Detroit Titans (20-11, 12-4) finished the regular season on a winning note with a 79-67 victory over the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames (16-14, 7-9). The Titans reached the 20 win plateau for the second straight year, this time heading into the Horizon League Tournament.

The Titans' Doug Anderson had a big game with 22 points, 9 boards and a few two handed flushes. Ray McCallum added 20 points and Jason Calliste had a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists.

Daniel Barnes had a big night for the Flames with 28 points while Anthony Kelly had 14 points. UIC could never really catch up with Detroit's aggressive defense and transition offense.

The Titans' aggressive defense caused nineteen Flame turnovers which turned into many points and easy baskets. Due to some early foul trouble, Detroit also used it's bench the most it has this season. While there wasn't a lot of stats that showed up in the final stat line, the Titans off the bench gave the starters some much needed rest as the season closed.

This is also good for the Titans to give themselves some momentum and rest going into the Horizon League Tournament. The Titans secured the #2 seed in the tournament which gives them two byes and will be rested until March 9th. UIC secured the #5 seed and will play the #8 seed which will not be determined until the remaining games conclude later today.

The Horizon League Tournament is set up so the first two seeds get two byes, while the third seed gets one bye. All first round games are played at the arena of the higher seed. The second and third rounds will be played at Valparasio which secured the #1 seed. The tournament championship will be played at the highest seeded team left in the tournament.
