Titanic II blueprints revealed; same in most ways but not ‘unsinkable’ (Video)

Clive Palmer, an Australian mining entrepreneur, revealed his blueprints for the Titanic II on Tuesday according to Yahoo News on Feb. 26.

The new ship will be a replica of the original by recreating the design and décor of the ocean liner whose story captivates millions more than 1100 years after her sinking.

There will naturally be some changes to ensure the ship is in compliance with current standards and practices and meets current safety requirements. It will also have modern updates for comfort such as air conditioning.

One feature that will remain the same is the separation of the three passenger classes. As with the original in 1912, they will not be allowed to mingle.

Palmer stopped short of calling his ship “unsinkable” but added "I'm not too superstitious

The original Titanic was operated by White Star Line which claimed the ocean-going vessel was unsinkable. Tragically, their claims were proved false when the ship sank on her maiden voyage, taking some 1,500 souls to the bottom of the sea with her in 1912 following a collision with an iceberg on its way from Southampton to New York.

The Blue Star Line company was created last year by Palmer. It would not make the same boasts as its predecessor. Palmer said "Anything will sink if you put a hole in it. I think it would be very cavalier to say it."

Titanic II will have ample space to accommodate enough lifeboats for everyone on board. It will also be built with additional escape stairways. Sales director for Deltamarin, Markku Kanerva, said Titanic II will be the "safest cruise ship in the world."

Construction could begin later this year if the details are worked out and the maiden voyage could take place as early as 2016.
