On the night of Monday, March 10th, the Microsoft Store located in Walt Whitman Mall on Long Island will be closing its doors early to prepare for the launch party of the highly anticipated Xbox One title "Titanfall." The store will close around 8:00 – 8:30 PM, which is the same time that fans will be able to start lining up outside the store before the event begins at 9. The incentive to get there early before the 12:01 launch of Titanfall? The first 25 people in line will receive a complimentary 12 Month Xbox Live Gold subscription card, while the first 100(which includes the first 25) will receive an exclusive Titanfall t-shirt to show off their love of the new Xbox One shooter.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Fazal Din, the store manager of the Walt Whitman location, to learn more about the event and to hear his thoughts on the upcoming game "Titanfall."
“We're excited to be celebrating the launch of "Titanfall" on Xbox One with the local community. I love the response that we got from our last event and I'm looking forward to seeing the response that we get from this one.”
The Walt Whitman location is one of the 94 Microsoft Store locations throughout the United States that will host a "Titanfall" launch event on the night of the 10th. While all these events will offer prize giveaways to those attending, Din explains that the event at Walt Whitman and 12 other selected Microsoft Stores will offer $4,000 worth of prizes throughout the night, which is double that of the prizes that are being offered at the other locations (they have prizes that are worth $2,000).
"Only 13 locations were selected to have some extra perks, including a radio DJ, Titanfall Step & Repeat Banner with red carpet, 8 additional flat panel TVs, Xbox One consoles and branded borders to be used for game play that night," explains Din.
Prizes that will be given away that night include a "Titanfall" themed Xbox One gaming console, as well as a Turtle Beach "Titanfall" Ear Force Atlas Headset, a Sony Action Cam with Wi-Fi, a Polk Audio SurroundBar 5000 IHT, a Nokia MD-100W Speaker and a slew of other great prizes.
“It truly is a party. It's not where you're coming in and buying a game and leaving. You're coming here to enjoy yourself and to enjoy the game before you can pick it up at 12:01. Everyone attending gets to enjoy food and drinks.”
Din told me that various refreshments will be available to all those attending, including a large amount of pizza, which is the number one requested item from the Microsoft fans that have attended previous events.
“Our gamers have told us that they love pizza and there will not be a shortage of that,” Din stated as he laughed.
Din also told me to be on the lookout for a well-known Microsoft character that may be attending the event. In the past, at the Xbox One's launch, Halo's Master Chief made an appearance at the Walt Whitman location, much to the excitement of the fans.
If all of this isn't enough to get you to want to preorder "Titanfall" before the launch party at Walt Whitman Mall, Din offers an extra incentive to those on the fence in the form of a $10 gift card given to anyone who preorders by 8:59 PM that night, which can be used for future Microsoft Store purchases.
The special Xbox One "Titanfall" bundle (one of which is being given away that night) will also be available for purchase and includes custom packaging, as well as a download of the game and a free month of Xbox Live Gold all for $499.
“I'm very confident that we will get a great response because of how we differentiate ourselves in what we do at our gaming launches. It's an amazing party to be at and I'm looking forward to it, as I'm sure all of our customers are as well.”
"Titanfall" will be available on March 11 in North America and March 13 in Europe for the Xbox One. An Xbox 360 version will also be available later in the month on March 25 in North America and March 28 in Europe.
The Microsoft Store where the event is taking place is located in Walt Whitman Mall at 160 Walt Whitman Road in Huntington Station, NY. I will be attending and I hope to see you all there!
