'Titanfall' will max out at 12 players in online matches

Respawn Entertainment's Vince Zampella revealed late Tuesday how many players Titanfall for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC will support online.

"6v6 is max player count. Turned out to be the best balance with [Artificial Intelligence] for us," Zampella wrote in response to a fan question on Twitter.

Some fans were unhappy with the news as Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 set a new standard with 24 player and 64 player matches but, according to Zampella, the game was tested with higherplayer counts and the 12 player total turned out to be the most fun.

Additionally, the 12-player total is "humans only count. There are lots of AI, everyone can have a Titan in follow or guard mode too," he explained.

So what's that about? For those unfamiliar, while Titanfall is a multiplayer only game it has a campaign style story that injects non-player characters into matches that participate in battles as well. Additionally, players can call down mechs (aka Titans) that they can pilot or hop out and have it act as an escort.

In other words, you'll have more to shoot at than just the six players on the other team. How many is still the question though as Zampella will only say, "there is enough to make it fun, the players are the real threat [though]."

Titanfall is due out March 11 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
