'Titanfall' slashed $20 at Walmart, Nintendo 3DS XL cut $30 and given free game

Titanfall” for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC received a significant discount Tuesday at Walmart. The retailer also cut the price of the Nintendo 3DS XL and threw in a free game. Don’t get too excited though as the free offering is from a selection of older DS titles.

Walmart slashed the price of “Titanfall” for both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 to $39.96. The PC version of the sci-fi shooter meets battling mechs is not far behind at $40.87.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo 3DS XL is available for $169 as part of a Starter Bundle that comes with your choice of a free Nintendo DS game. The custom Mario and Luigi Nintendo 3DS XL is also available at a cost of $10 more. There are 77 Nintendo DS titles to choose from but the large majority of them are forgettable outside of a handful of titles.

The “Titanfall” discount comes at an opportune time though. Respawn Entertainment plans to release the game’s first DLC for the Xbox One and PC this month followed by the Xbox 360 in June. “Titanfall: Expedition” will come with three maps - “Swampland,” “Runoff” and “Wargames.” As the names for each suggest, “Swampland” features trees that can be used for wall running and hopping, lots of water and zip vines. “Runoff” is set in a water treatment facility with three different levels of gameplay including canals. Meanwhile, “Wargames” is based on the training simulator that players run through as the tutorial for the game with a map that combine elements from the “Angel City”, “Rise” and “Airbase Sierra” maps.

Game Update 3 is also on the way which includes custom loadouts and lots of private match options. There’s also a host of gameplay balance and bug fixes planned.

An exact release date for “Expedition” or Game Update 3 has not been given yet. The DLC costs $9.99 by itself but comes with the $24.99 Season Pass.
