The Papillion-LaVista South High Titans put on a strong performance of the "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" to a crowd of over 150 who responded with a standing ovation. Thursday was the first of two performances of the play. The second and final show is Friday, April 25th at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Adults are $10.00 per ticket. Discounts are provided for students and those with an activity card present at the time of purchase.

This same play has been performed in other venues such as the Omaha Community Playhouse. Viewers who have seen the OCC version will find some differences in the Titan version. Some of the jokes have been changed to current events, people, and themes of today's teen crowd. There is an additional competitor of age that is sure to delight; A surprise actress who brought smiles and laughter to the audience prior to an incorrect spelling of a word ousted her from the competition and she slowly left the stage.

Generally speaking, the voice work is strong and the play well acted. Due to the nature of the characters, and some exceptional delivery of their lines, the Vice Principal (played by Tyler Nordbrock) and Coneybear (played by Max Hauze) characters get laugh after laugh in this 90+ minute rendition. Jesse Vrable who is both an audience member and the dream sequence image of Olive's father has a particularly interesting and funny take on the "Harlem Shake" style moments in the show. Each cast member makes a contribution to the overall success to this play as well as all the supporting members who manage to get the lighting, props, and sound off without a hitch.

This is a show not to be missed and an inexpensive way to see one of the most well received plays across this country.
