As promised in a previous article, a number of education/certifications will be examined for any event planner based in Las Vegas. While there are countless education outlets for the event planner to be a part of online, it is important to identify sources of knowledge right here in the city of Las Vegas. Before delving into information about any one certification that this particular source of education offers, it is a good idea to examine the history and mission of TISOH (tee-soh), The International School of Hospitality.
The actual school is located right here in the city, at 3614 E. Sunset Road, where adult students in the industry (or looking to get into the industry) can go to attend classes and workshops and receive classroom credit time. The classes are focused “around lectures, class discussions, guest panels and case studies.” Students also have the opportunity to attend a variety of internships offered by the school.
Because they are located in Las Vegas, one of the busiest locations for event planning in the country, the school also offers online classes for the busy or non-local student, providing professionals who do not live here to gain knowledge.
TISOH is made up of four departments: Department of Conferences and Events, Department of Catering, Department of Hotel Management, and Department of Wedding Coordination. This allows professionals to either choose their own focus in the hospitality industry, or to get better rounded by taking classes and workshops from any of the categories. Some classes are entry-level (meaning there are no pre-requisites in either schooling or professional experience that need to be met in order for the student to apply or attend), but some do require some prior experience in the industry. The details are all listed in the above links.
With the overview of TISOH now available above, the details of the certifications that they offer will be examined in future articles.
